The crash occurred at 3:12 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 on Route 55 southbound at milepost 44.6 in Elk Township, New Jersey State Police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Mack dump truck was operating within a construction zone and failed to lower its bed after offloading materials, State Police said.

The Mack was traveling south with its bed raised when it struck the overpass for Cedar Bridge Road, police said. The impact caused the dump portion of the truck to become dislodged, they said.

All southbound lanes were closed but traffic was permitted to travel using the right shoulder, police said.

No visible structural damage was observed but engineers were called to examine the overpass, they said.

The driver of the truck did not report any injuries.

The truck was removed at approximately 6:36 a.m.
